The four-story mill was originally constructed in 1899, built to process and store grain. This was truly an architectural hallmark of agricultural Colorado at the turn of the century.
By 1910, newspapers described The Windsor Mill as among the largest and most modern facilities of its kind in the West.
On September 3, 1998, the Windsor Mill & Elevator Company Building was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its historic and architectural significance.
In 2008, the powerful Windsor tornado caused major damage across the town. Upper portions of The Windsor Mill were pried away. This was devastating to the town.
A large fire happened overnight, determined to be arson, significantly damaged the historic Windsor Mill building during redevelopment.
The Windsor Mill opened its doors in late 2020 after extensive restorations, highlighting restored brick and industrial character as part of a modern event experience in downtown Windsor.
Today, The Windsor Mill’s top floor is home to The Mill Event Venue, welcoming more than 100 weddings and corporate gatherings annually.
